The investigation and analysis of geotechnical
conditions in the marine environment requires skills in planning,
plus an understanding of the demands and const-raints facing marine
working. An under-standing of the issues likely to arise through
the project, and technical knowledge of geotechnics and engineering
geology
are essential.
Mott MacDonald has extensive experience in the procurement and
supervision of offshore ground investigations and the design and
construction of various marine structures. We have worked on port
developments in Ireland, South Africa and Libya with
responsibilities for procuring, managing, supervising and analysing
ground investigations and undertaking research on the potential
coastal impact of construction, and the likely impact of future
coastal evolution on new structures. As part of our work on the
proposed Brighton and Hove Waste Water Treatment Scheme we managed
the ground investigation for the design of the 3km long sea outfall
and the various issues arising from coastal erosion scenarios.
