Understanding geomorphology, geology and coastal
processes is essential in order to tackle the unique challenges
faced by coastal areas. Mott MacDonald has a successful history
assessing potential issues arising at coastlines to help produce
viable, affordable and sustainable solutions.
We’ve carried out numerous desk studies, cliff inspections and
walk-over surveys in order to ascertain the nature of a coastline,
its history, prevailing conditions and potential evolution.
Analysis of the information gathered enables implementation of
project focused studies – including the production of ground
models, recession rate analyses, cliff behaviour studies and beach
dynamic models. The coastal team have designed flood defence and
coastal protection structures for scheme development. Mott
MacDonald has recently worked in the UK, in North Norfolk, the
Sussex coast and the Western Isles, and overseas in Libya and
Guyana. We have provided project appraisal reports to support grant
aid applications for coastal defence funding and have a full
understanding of Defra policy and guidelines.
