Mott MacDonald recognises that the efficient management of large
volumes of geotechnical and geoenvironmental data is crucial to
many large projects. We currently manage several relational
databases exceeding one million records. We have designed custom
database geographical information systems (GIS) and internet
solutions for clients including The Highways Agency, Dubai
Municipality, London Underground Limited, Union Railways (Channel
Tunnel Rail Link) and BAA at London Heathrow. We have developed
applications for other clients using various software and on a
number of hardware platforms to maintain compatibility with the
client’s existing systems. Where necessary we provide staff to
advise and train.
HAGDMSOur track record includes data
acquisition, including archive data collation, ground investigation
and monitoring and real time data collection. We provide expertise
in data translation using a selection of tools. We have expertise
in the translation of all types of ASCII data into structured
formats, demonstrated by our major role in the development of the
AGS Format for geotechnical data transferral and the AGS-M Format
for monitoring data. We develop and install automated procedures to
assist in data checking and implement a quality assured system of
virus checking and data backup. We manage and maintain the largest
validated geotechnical database in the private sector.
Our capability in designing and developing geotechnical data
management systems is demonstrated by the following key
projects:
- BAA Terminal 5 - geotechnical and geoenvironmental data
management system and support to the project design teams
- Heathrow Airport - national internet based Geotechnical Data
Management System
- Dubai National Geotechnical Management System for data archive
visualisations and technical analysis
We apply a spectrum of computer techniques for data management,
numerical modelling and geotechnical design solutions.
Our experience includes:
- managing geotechnical and geoenvironmental data
- constructing and managing geotechnical, geoenvironmental and
geological databases
- compiling into databases and validating old and existing
data
- integrating old data into the main geotechnical data management
systems
- using geostatistical risk analysis to identify areas of
potential hazard
- developing innovative solutions for manipulating, analysing,
displaying and distributing the data, including internet based
systems
Dubai groundwater analysisWe also have
extensive expertise in the application and use of geostatistical
analysis of spatial data for geotechnical problems. We utilise the
Geostokos Toolkit, an advanced geostatistical data analysis
package, quantifying geological uncertainty and assist in
engineering problem solving such as:
- defining rockhead level for tunnel and station construction at
Delhi Metro
- optimising tunnel level at Heathrow Terminal 5
- modelling of spatial distribution of gas works derived
contaminants in support of litigation
