Embankment stabilisationMott MacDonald has
developed a successful methodology for earthworks inspection,
condition appraisal and repair assessment. This was demonstrated on
London Underground’s surface railway and more recently for
Railtrack in Great Western and Midland Zones.
Lock condition assessmentMott
MacDonald have also won two contracts with British Waterways for
national geotechnical support and general civil engineering support
in the North West of England in order to maintain the British
Waterway canal network.
On ageing clay earthworks which may have been constructed with
little or no compaction, slips are prone to develop in later life
as the clay softens. Overgrowth of vegetation also induces
significant seasonal movements. A common outcome of inspection is a
need for a desk study to identify maintenance difficulties and site
investigation to allow assessment of ground conditions prior to
possible remedial work.
Slope condition assessmentOur
proactive approach to the management of earthworks maintenance and
renewals has resulted in Mott MacDonald being involved in numerous
remedial work designs both for London Underground and
Railtrack.
Mott MacDonald is the lead author for the prestigious CIRIA report
C550 on infrastructure embankments, condition appraisal and
remedial measures.
