Stone column seismic liquefaction mitigation in
Trinidad Since the establishment of a geotechnical
capability within Mott, Hay & Anderson in the early 1970’s,
there has been a consistent requirement for high quality, practical
geotechnical advice to project designers and site managers across
the full range of Mott MacDonald’s services. This has been
maintained by a core of specialist, experienced staff including
managers of our foundations and geotechnics team. Where appropriate
additional support has been obtained from academic consultants in
prime universities.
This powerful resource has been of considerable benefit in being
able to respond to either external or internal requests for
assistance at short notice. Particularly successful examples where
the availability of this capability has facilitated progress
include:
- use of monitoring and the observational method on Amsterdam’s
North-South Metro
- authorship of state-of-the-art reports for the Construction
Industry Research and Information Association
- interpretation of ground movements around the trial NATM tunnel
at Heathrow
- the role of geotechnical advisors on decennial insurance cover
for various structural and industrial projects around the
world
- support to site supervision teams for various major highway
schemes
- research and development for all major transportation
infrastructure owners
